The fever cools, but love stays hot.
The fingers yearn and memories sear
the distant past you wish was near.
Love steeps inside your blood and clots,
fermenting nothing more than thoughts
of somebody that loved you and you loved in return,
of someone who by loving you would get you to learn
that love can turn cold and still burn.
All the pain that you feel reverses the wheel.
Carry on.
Love leaves but never is gone.
A lover leaves, but love can stay
’til pain erodes that love away.
A choice is made. A chance is lost.
The anger wins, and love’s the cost.
You’re shouting the apologies you wish you’d made clear,
and whispering a part of you that held back in fear,
and wishing that he was still here.
